What are the Common Wine Varietals

Cabernet Sauvignon

Red Wine

Currant, Plum, Black Cherry & Spice, Vanilla, Tobacco, Cedar, Anise, Pepper & Herbs. With age, these wines become more complex and full-bodied. Cabernet that spends from 15 to 30 months in American and French oak barrels enriches with the addition of toasty cedar and vanilla.

Red Wine

Syrah is a dark-skinned grape grown worldwide and used primarily to produce powerful red wines. They enjoy great popularity in the marketplace, relatively often under Shiraz.

Zinfandel (Zin)

Red Wine

Zinfandels can be bold and mild with a spicy aroma and lots of raspberry flavors. It blends well with flavors such as cherry, wild berry, and plum, bringing out nuances of leather, soil mixed with a borrower, and tar. Zinfandel is the most widely grown grape in California; it is commonly turned into White Zinfandel, a sweet blush wine.

Pinot Noir

Red Wine

This grape is the noble grape of Burgundy. There are undertones of black cherry, spice, and raspberry in the flavors of this grape. It is difficult to cultivate and, at best, resembles Cabernet Sauvignon but with fewer tannins. Champagne wines are often made using pinot noir.

White Wine

Apple, Pear, Vanilla, Peach, Melon, Citrus, Lemon, Grapefruit, Honey, Spice, Butterscotch, Butter & Hazelnut. Chardonnay integrates well with both oak aging and malolactic fermentation. It's pretty easy to manipulate in the hands of various methods.

Sauvignon Blanc

White Wine

Fruity and herbaceous tastes and aromas characterize this light-bodied and medium-bodied wine, sometimes with added hints of gooseberry and black currant. In the state of California, it is typically referred to as Fume Blanc. New Zealand produces some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs, boasting an exceptionally fruity style.

Pinot Gris

White Wine

This varietal produces soft white wines that have a rich, fruity aroma. Generally grown in northeast Italy, Pinot Grigio is also made in France and is known as Tokay.

White Wine

Riesling is a white grape that originates in the Rhine region of Germany. Riesling is an aromatic grape variety displaying flowery, almost perfumed, aromas and high acidity. It makes dry, semi-sweet, sweet, and sparkling white wines. The importance of quality wines is usually included in the "top three" white wine varieties with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
